I was charging my iPhone 6 with an official lightning charge cable and felt it getting hot and suddenly there was smoking coming from the cable. Glowing red embers like a fire.

This is an official original lighting cable that was included with the iPhone. Just like most cables from Apple, it had started to yellow a little, showing it's age .

The moral of the story? Replace old cables or just buy a decent third party cable and throw away the included cable because honestly Apple aren't very good at making long lasting charge cables.
