Unlike the earlier types of energy saving bulbs, an LED does not take a while to light up.

LEDS CAN BE SWITCHED ON AND OFF WITHOUT BEING DAMAGED
Also unlike other types of light bulb, an LED bulb – all types – from built-in LED spots to a bedside lamp – can be turned on and off repeatedly, without it impacting on the lifespan of the light. This means, curious children are not going to destroy them that easily!

LEDS SAVE ENERGY
This is getting to the nitty-gritty of why people choose LEDs over traditional style incandescent bulbs, or even over halogens.
An incandescent bulb actually transforms 90% of the energy that passes through it into heat and not light.

This is not the case with the LED bulb. Whilst LED bulbs are still hot to the touch, they are not as hot as a traditional bulb is. However still take care with this!

An incandescent, will of course stillburn you if you pick it up for a long time after it has been switched on.

An LED is up to 80% more efficient than the incandescent bulb and converts most of its energy straight into light.
This is the reason why LED bulbs have a much lower wattage than the corresponding wattage of incandescent bulbs, but kick out the same amount of light.

Because of their energy saving properties, they are therefore very green and environmentally friendly.

LEDS SAVE YOU MONEY
The knock on effect of all this energy being saved is that LED bulbs also save you money.
In 2012, replacing incandescent bulbs for LEDs made a saving of $675 million over the whole of the United States.

LEDS CAN PREVENT BACTERIA!
Did you know that LEDs have replaced incandescent and halogen bulbs as the lighting of choice for delis and butcher’s shops?
This is because they actively prevent bacteria from breeding and so food left under LED lighting will be safer!

INSECTS AND BUGS DON’T LIKE LEDS
If you are burning an LED bulb outside your door, it will attract fewer bugs and nasty flying insects, than a traditional incandescent bulb will do.
