This is a comparison overview of a few unbranded chinese aquarium lights for nano aquariums, available, either on Ebay, Amazon or on a few chinese websites. I will not put links for neutrality sake but I'm sure you can easily find them on these stores. Prices range from as low as 4$ to around 20$

My conclusions:

48LED Clip Light (+/- 8$)
(There is also a 24led version but I don’t think it is worth it considering the small (1/2$) price difference)
Power consumption:3W
Size: 178*42*12mm
Review: Compared to the other lights tested, this one is clearly the looser. It has a decent design but the Led technology is outdated and doesn’t produce much light. Also the emited light is to blue for my taste.

X3 - 12 Led Clip (+/- 4$)
Power: 5W
Size: 13cmx6.5cm
Review: For a basic aplication I believe it could be useful. Would certainly be enough light for anubias and ferns if directly centered below the led’s. Not much to go wrong and you can’t beat the price.

X5 - 24 Led Clip – All White led or White + Blue led versions (+/- 10$)
Power: 10W
Size: 235*115*68mm
Review: Great value for the money. Suprisingly powerful . slim design. I believe the all white led version is the best option. Color temperature is around 6500k, similar to daylight. The only con is the fact that it doesn’t stay 100% horizontal but at a slight angle.

X7 - 36 Led Clip (+/- 10$)
Power: 15W
Size: 25cm
Review: It is a powerful fixture and it allows for some costumization when it comes to iluminating certain areas of the aquarium individually. Unfortunately I believe its design is also its downfall. It feels flimsy, and the first unit I tested stopped working after barely touching it.

36 Led Clip Fixture- White + Blue leds (+/- 18$)
Power: 6W
Size: 30x10x5cm
Review: The more expensive one but also the one that seems better build. Difuses light in a nice straight angle. Extendable brackets. 2 modes: Only blue and white+blue. I wish there was a version with only white leds but this one is not bad at all.

Final thoughts: From my personal experience I believe the slim X5, with all white leds is the best value for money option, as it is decently build and would be more than enough for a small aquarium. Even the use of more than one unit would be worth considering for larger tanks, as it is so cheap. If you can’t have a clip-on light then the bar shaped 36led fixure would work great. There are larger sizes of the same model available online so check them out.
